Retention and Persistence Office

Mission

To enhance student dignity and experience, the Retention and Persistence Office was established. Collaborating with academic schools and support programs, this office ensures services match student needs and align with enrollment goals. Our goal is to boost retention and graduation rates by fostering academic success. This will be accomplished by facilitating early interventions, using data to remove barriers, and systematically tracking undergraduates. In partnership with Holy Family University's dedicated Student Success Coaches, we provide personalized guidance to support students' academic and personal journeys, addressing challenges such as time management, goal setting, and effective communication with faculty.

Academic Success Coaches

An advisor and HFU student in a one-on-one coaching session

Our academic success coaches are dedicated to facilitating students' transition into college life and ensuring their academic success. Our team collaborates closely with students through personalized, one-on-one meetings to develop strategies that promote self-advocacy, time management, study preparation, and effective communication with faculty.

By systematically tracking undergraduate progress and utilizing data-driven approaches, we proactively identify and remove barriers to success, implementing early interventions tailored to each student's needs. In partnership with campus stakeholders, we address alerts raised by instructors through our early alert system, ensuring timely support for students navigating academic and wellness challenges. Our comprehensive support services are designed to empower students to thrive academically and personally throughout their university journey.

Academic Warning & Probation Support

Maintaining good academic standing is essential for your educational success. The Retention and Persistence Office is here to support students who are on academic warning or academic probation.

Understanding Academic Standing

  • Academic Warning: If your semester GPA falls below 2.0, you will be placed on academic warning
  • Academic Probation: If your cumulative GPA drops below 2.0, you will be placed on academic probation

Our office proactively reaches out to students in these situations to schedule personalized appointments. During these meetings, we will discuss the challenges you faced in the prior semester and collaboratively develop an academic recovery plan. This plan will connect you with essential campus resources and recommend effective academic strategies to promote your success in the classroom. For students at risk of dismissal, we provide additional guidance and support to navigate these critical situations. Our goal is to empower you to overcome obstacles and achieve your academic aspirations.

Early Alert Program

Your academic success is our priority. The Retention and Persistence Office manages the early alert platform, Ellucian's CRM Advise, to identify and support students facing academic challenges. This system enables timely interventions, ensuring you receive the assistance needed to thrive in your studies.

Key Features of the Early Alert System

Alert Timeline: Alerts can be raised between weeks 3 and 13 of the semester. During the first two weeks, any concerns will be addressed through the Registrar’s enrollment verification process.

Types of Alerts

  • Missed Assignments: Missing two or more assignments in a course
  • Failed Exams/Tests/Quizzes: Performance that may jeopardize passing the course
  • Excessive Absences: Absences equating to twice the number of weekly contact hours
  • Absences Impacting Success: Any absences that the instructor believes affect your course success
  • Internship Concerns: Specific issues in field experience courses
  • Referrals for Additional Support: Including Academic Success, Tutoring, Career Coaching, Dean of Students for well-being concerns, and Counseling for mental health support

Alert Resolution: Alerts remain active until you attend the scheduled appointment with your professional/faculty advisor or academic success coach.

Our goal is to provide a supportive environment that addresses challenges promptly, helping you stay on track toward graduation. If you have any questions or need assistance, please reach out to the Retention and Persistence Office at mmcnulty@bestcookingbooks.com.
